Circumstances & Resolutions (2026)
Marco Wedel at Stille 3
Circumstances & Resolutions was a record release performance for the album of the same name. It brought the piano into dialogue with environmental and everyday soundscapes – water, urban traces, and the quiet presence of spaces – blurring the line between composition and field recording.
The performance was presented as part of Stille 3, #klaviermusik, a concert series in Berlin-Friedrichshain taking place in the Dreifaltigkeitskirche, and as part of Vorspiel transmediale & CTM 2026.
In this site-specific setting, Marco Wedel (piano), Brian Ledwidge Flynn (soundscapes), and Martin Tscholl (photography/video) brought piano, electronic textures, and images of water from the Nyastølfossen (a waterfall in Norway) into dialogue with the church’s architecture and acoustics, which became an active part of the work.
Sound, image, space, and performance unfolded together as a transmedial constellation – a shared listening situation in which composition, environment, and perception continuously reshaped one another.
(Gem(ein)sam)keiten) (2025)
for open ensemble
(Gem(ein)sam)keiten) is a piece about proximity and distance – about sounding together, drifting apart, and the fragile negotiations in between. It explores how shared ground can emerge from listening, imitation, and attention; how individual expression may dissolve into collective resonance – or resist it.
Gemeinsamkeiten was awarded 3rd Prize at the international competition Composing for and by All – Open Score Composition Competition Berlin 2025, organized by the KNM campus ensemble, Neue Musik für Alle e.V., CoMA – Contemporary Music for All, and Klangwerkstatt Berlin
Premiere on November 15th, 2025, at Klangwerkstatt Berlin Festival für Neue Musik, Berlin, Germany.

Einen Strich in die Welt setzen (2025)
for double bass and soprano
The piece unfolds as a dialogue between soprano and double bass – two voices that could hardly be more different. Sometimes they encourage each other tenderly, sometimes they provoke, contradict, resist, or even mock each other. Outbursts of anger collide with fragile attempts at intimacy; ironic distance gives way to moments of sincere vulnerability. At times, the music resembles an argument, at others a playful game, a collapse into chaos, or a childlike joy.
The work takes inspiration from poetic fragments by Rainer Maria Rilke. His images of striving, fear, and creation resonate throughout the music: “we want to ripen – and that means to be dark and to strive”; “and I feel your heart and mine beating, both out of fear”; “you set before the heavens: slender, alone. And you made the world.”
At its core lies a simple but existential attempt: to draw a line into the world. This “line” is not stable or singular – it is rewritten again and again, tested in doubt and re-imagined in hope. In the end, what remains is one gesture, one sound, fragile yet insistent: a mark that is both questioning and affirmative, both alone and shared.
Einen Strich in die Welt setzen was awarded First Prize at the inaugural Begüm Aslan Composition Prize (2025) and premiered by Begüm Aslan on 14 September 2025 at TivoliVredenburg, Utrecht, during the Gaudeamus Festival, alongside works by Iannis Xenakis, Hongjoo Jung, Sarah Nemtsov, Krzysztof Penderecki, and Yuheng Chen.
Beziehung (2025)
for violin and cello
Beziehung (Relationship) explores the fragile and shifting dynamics of musical interaction, between performers, between notation and sound, between presence and form. It unfolds as an essay on shared time, space, and attention.
The piece begins with a silent ritual: an intimate moment of stillness before a single note is played. Who begins remains undefined, but from that gesture, the form begins to grow. What follows is a responsive exchange – imitation, transformation, and interruption – in which every decision alters the path forward. To lead is to shape, but also to exclude. To respond is to create. And, as in any relationship, much remains unheard.
Gradually, from this open dialogue, fixed notation begins to emerge. Structure asserts itself, yet never fully displaces the need for presence. Even in its most concrete passages, Beziehung remains attentive to the moment: the fragility of co-creation, the human tension between intention and reception, the quiet influence of the composer as an unseen third.
Premiered on June 25th, 2025, at Bled Contemporary Music Week, Bled, Slovenia. Performed by Juan Sebastián Ortega (violin) and Liam Battle (cello).
Sicut Cervus (2025)
Choral work for mixed voices (SATB)
Sicut Cervus (As the deer) was composed in response to a call by Koorschool Delft to create a new choral piece in dialogue with the music of Giovanni Pierluigi da Palestrina, whose 500th anniversary is celebrated in 2025.
Without directly quoting Palestrina, the piece engages with his musical legacy through a personal harmonic and tonal language. Rooted in modality and traditional polyphonic writing, it seeks spiritual resonance through chromatic longing – evoking a slightly anxious, yet warm and grounded sentiment. The text, drawn from Psalm 42 ("As the deer longs for streams of water..."), serves as a point of departure for a musical meditation on longing, presence, and spiritual desire.
The composition unfolds as a single, continuous movement and was performed by the English vocal ensemble Vox Populi during a public workshop, alongside works by other international participants. It received its premiere as the winning piece of Koorschool Delft’s inaugural Composition Competition during a concert at the Schuilkerk Bagijnhof (hidden church) in Delft.
Premiered by Vox Populi, June 21st, 2025, Delft, Netherlands.
Episode(n) für Cello (2024/2025)
Solo for cello (work in progress)
Episode(n) für Cello (Episode(s) for Cello) is a contemplative solo work written for Elide Sulsenti as part of the workshop "Esplorazioni sonore: comporre per violoncello oggi" .
It is an ongoing work-in-progress, currently consisting of two episodes, each exploring different aspects of expression, texture, and sonic inquiry. The first episode begins with a question – an inquisitive motif that is immediately dispersed into an analog sonic exploration, eventually leading to a consonant consolidation. The second episode expands on this framework, subtly introducing electronics as an additional sonic layer guided by the cello. The electronics emerge organically, intertwining with the instrument’s resonance to create shifting perspectives and evolving textures. Recorded at Inter Arts Center, Malmö (2025).
Performance of 1st Movement as part of the workshop "Esplorazioni sonore: comporre per violoncello oggi" by Elide Sulsenti, September 27th-20th, 2024, Pistoia, Italy.

Kleiner Herzschrittmacher (2024)
Composition for violin (2), viola, cello, alto saxophone, flute, and harp
Kleiner Herzschrittmacher (Cardiac Pacemaker) is a musical essay for ensemble that delicately navigates the space between emotion and restraint. While the title suggests a device aiding the heart's next step, the composition itself reflects subtle, subconscious attempts to (re)animate feelings of compassion amidst the rhythms of existence.
The ensemble becomes akin to surgeons, carefully handling something as fragile as the heart of a mouse – or perhaps something even smaller. The piece evokes questions about beauty, sentimentality, or authenticity in the 21st century, leaving the listener with a sense of curiosity and contemplation. It is meant to be performed with precision and tenderness, as if scaling down to the intimate, fragile world of a new-born life.

Living Room Landscapes (2024)
Piano Solo
Living Room Landscapes is a collection of songs that evoke the quiet, introspective mood of nature, blending serene, slowly darkening landscapes with the pulse of urban life.
The music captures the stillness and subtle tension of the natural world in transition, while the recording itself is shaped by the sounds of a bustling city (Berlin, Hermannplatz) – ambulance sirens, street noise, and demonstrations subtly woven into the recordings.
This juxtaposition creates a soundscape aiming to create a balance between nature’s introspection and the energy of modern life. The music is available on all major streaming platforms.

Gegen das Bewusstsein (2023)
String Trio in 3. Movements
The string trio Gegen das Bewusstsein (Against Consciousness) is an intimate exploration of the tension between self-awareness and external forces.
The theme grapples with the concept of consciousness, presenting a dialogue where internal coherence is constantly interrupted by external shocks – much like moments of disorientation in life. These shocks destabilize the music’s flow, forcing it to recompose itself, only to be interrupted again. This ongoing struggle creates a sense of tension and ambiguity, culminating in a single, fragile tone at the end.

Kontrapunkt (2009)
Artistic Intervention
On a cold winter's morning in 2009, people found themselves surrounded by the music of Schubert while waiting on the platform of the underground station “Berlin - Alexanderplatz.” The project Kontrapunkt (Counterpoint) aimed to inject moments of surprise and beauty into the commuter’s morning routine of everyday life.
Without any financial incentive, the project invited passersby to pause and reflect, whether by listening, capturing the moment with their phones, or simply enjoying a little surprise. Inspired by Albert Camus' notion that brief, unexpected moments can give life a new perspective, the artistic intervention aimed to challenge the relentless drive for productivity, offering instead a fleeting moment of creativity and wonder.
